The majority of us are longing for things to go back to normal, but for now we are resigning to the fact that this is and will be the ‘new’ normal for a while.
Last weekend saw the reopening of many bars and restaurants in England, allowing many to return to work, and people to meet up once again with their friends and family for food and drinks. This is a huge step in the right direction, but how do you do your best to ensure you are providing a safe environment for both your colleagues and your customers.
You have to simply remember the basics:
- Wash your hands (have hand sanitiser available for your customers)
- Promote washing hands with soap in toilets (use signs / ensure paper towels and soap dispensers are kept topped up)
- Avoid crowds (ensure any tables or meeting areas are positioned at least 1 metre apart, but 2 where possible. Mark areas for people to stand and wait for entry into your premises and at restrooms)
- Wear a mask (customers will lead by example, ensure all staff are wearing masks and promote customers to do the same)
- Avoid handshakes / contact (touching elbows has become common as a substitute for this)
- Disinfect and protect (wipe down all surfaces in between use. Pay more attention to high risk areas such as light switches & door handles)
