As from today the rule of six begins, but what does this look like across the UK: 

England 

  • You can only meet in groups of 6 as from Monday 14 September
  • This applies to gatherings both indoors and outdoors 
  • Pubs and restaurants will remain open, but only tables of up to 6 allowed 
  • All gatherings of 6 can be from multiple households 
  • Limit of 6 applies to all ages, including babies
  • When together to keep 1m distance where possible

Scotland

  • You can only meet in groups of 6 as from Monday 14 September
  • This applies to gatherings both indoors and outdoors
  • Pubs and restaurants will remain open, but only tables up to 6 allowed
  • All gatherings of 6 to be from 2 households only 
  • Rule only applied to age 12+ 
  • When together to keep 2m distance where possible 

Wales

  • Rule of 6 applies to indoor gatherings only 
  • Gatherings indoors to only be with 2 households
  • Outdoor gatherings still allowed up to 30 from multiple households
  • Rule only applied to age 12+
  • When together to keep 2m distance where possible 
  • Pubs and restaurants will remain open, but only tables up to 6 allowed 

Northern Ireland

  • Rule of 6 applies to indoor gatherings only
  • Gatherings indoors to only be with 2 households
  • Outdoor gatherings allowed up to 15 from multiple households 
  • Limit of 6 applies to all ages, including babies
  • When together to keep 2 metre distance where possible 
  • Pubs and restaurants will remain open, but only tables up to 6 allowed

Workplaces, schools, weddings, funerals and places of worship are exempt from the rule across all of the UK.
